Investigating Salt Concentration Effects on Buoyant Force

ISS Research Project Team

Problem Statement

Effect of salt concentration of a buoyant force on a miniature ship.

Project Context

My group and I researched how the salt concentration in water affects the buoyant force on a miniature ship. We chose this topic due to the rapid growth of the shipping industry following its halt during COVID-19. This research project aims to provide conclusive data on whether salt concentration influences the buoyancy force acting on ships during shipments.

Data Collection & Analysis

We used a data logger connected to a salinity metre to collect precise data on buoyant force changes. The data was systematically inputted into spreadsheets, and I created comprehensive graphs to visualize the collected data and identify trends in our findings.

Key Findings

Our research conclusively demonstrated that salt concentration in water does not significantly affect the buoyant force acting on ships, providing valuable insights for maritime engineering and shipping industry considerations.
